The Hamburg Regional Selection Conference of EYP Germany turned into the final destination of four of EYP Alumni

EYP Armenia Alumni stand out by their amicable attitude and demeanour towards all of the National and International Sessions. This time, it was The Hamburg Regional Selection Conference of EYP Germany taking place 5-8 March, 2015 that turned into the final destination of four of our Alumni – Vardges Shahmenendyan, Avnik Melikian, Anna Zohrabyan and Armenuhi Hovakimyan. It is of no surprise that every EYP session is full of adventures, fun and acquaintances, and this one was no exception. Travelling to Berlin, being hosted by the Armenians, getting lost and missing the bus, reuniting with old fellows from AYSOR, hearing a Russian girl representing Greece, sing a song about Armenia are amongst many happenstances in Germany that will engrave in the minds of our representatives for good.

Willing to see Berlin very much, Avnik had been trying to persuade other Alumni from Armenia and after a great deal of  resistance especially from Vardges, she finally succeeded in convincing Anna to go with her. This is what Avnik tells about their  German adventure, Anna was really concerned with us, two girls, staying overnight in a hotel in a completely foreign city.  Anyway, we got to Berlin, got off the bus and took the S-bahn to the city centre, not nearly knowing our destination. The  weather was really cold but 2 girls right in front of us were wearing really light clothes, so Anna said, “Look at these  Germans, they’ve got so much used to this weather that they’re wearing leather jacket now. “ And I said, “Yeah you’re right,  but they don’t look German. They’ve got black hair and darker skin than Germans.” You see, an Armenian in Berlin is not a  rare thing at all, but two Armenians in the same metro, the same time as you, in the same cabin and sitting exactly right in f  ront of you…well, let’s admit that’s uncommon. As soon as we found out that they’re Armenians Anna started talking to them  and asked them what places we should see and in what hostel/hotel it would be safe for us to stay. The other thing that was  typically Armenian of those nice girls was that they suggested that we go and stay at their place. Happy with that idea and  not even thinking about refusing it, we spent the night at their place. They guided us a lot in finding places in the city and  helped us have an unforgettable experience there. Despite the fact that we missed our bus on our way back to Hamburg and  had to buy a new ticket, and that we had kind of gotten lost in the city the day before, all that we remember now is the great  moments there, the beauty of Berlin and the awesome hospitality of Armenians all around the world”.
We tried to find out why Vardges was firmly refusing to visit Berlin, accompanying the girls. He proposed the following argument, “My main objective was to feel the difference in time. Hamburg is a perfect example of today’s multicultural and highly developed Germany whilst Luneburg, being the milestone of the German traditions, showed me the past”.

According to Vardges, every time you apply for an EYP session, you never know what to expect. One may think it’s all the same – teambuilding, committee work, General Assembly. But every time it’s something different, new and inspiring. Being considered “an experienced EYPer” he had the responsibility to help young German guys, for whom the conference was the first step to enter the big EYP family, and to do his best to make sure his committee mates didn’t face any difficulties. As to what were the difficulties he encountered, Vardges replied, “Probably the only difficulty I faced at the session was a game during the teambuilding. I was supposed to say a name of an animal that starts with the first letter of my name – V. I ended up choosing wolf, as it was probably the closest option I could find”. One memorable coincidence became his favourite, “The Eurovillage was about to start, everyone was busy with preparing their national tables, suddenly someone started singing “А где-то горы, горы, а за ними нивы, Армения моя…” what a surprise! A Russian girl living in Germany and representing Greece at the Eurovillage singing about Armenia… that’s not what you expect, Is it?”Vardges

The proof to EYP marking the history is the following story, “The last evening in Hamburg became very special one that I will remember for a very long time. There were participants from many countries, but who could think that the last evening in Hamburg the Armenians delegation will spend with the Turkish delegation. This really proves that EYP is all about friendship and peace”.

Anna, for is a newcomer in the EYP world, shared her thoughts with us by mentioning the following, The conference gave me deeper understanding of nowadays crucial economic and political issues that many of us oversee”. To the question about the most memorable part of the conference, Anna replied, “I enjoyed each minute and day of this project, had fun and especially liked the Eurovillage, the most exciting and sweetest part of the conference”.

We will keep on sharing the stories of our Alumni as a proof to how EYP Armenia can be a life-changing experience. 1616348_1093355267356631_1660904842_n

I’m amazed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s equally educative and
entertaining, and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head.

The issue is something too few people are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy that I stumbled across this during my search for something concerning this.
